It's a snap. Every chain comes with its own hanging hook — remove the downspout, set the hook into the gutter's outlet hole, and hang the chain. No tools needed in most cases. In most cases, yes — the water just needs to come off the roof vertically at a point, like a corner or valley, with the chain hung beneath the flow. Setups vary (Southwest canales included), so there's no single standard method; the rule is simply to give the chain adequate support.

Usually no. If your gutter's outlet hole turns out to be oversized for the chain (uncommon), our Gutter Installer seats into the hole, focuses the water onto the chain, and strengthens the connection — from $13.95, in finishes that match the chains.

Yes — chains do fine in cold and freezing climates. The one caution is ice weight: heavy buildup can overload the stock hanging hook, so in hard-freeze country use the Gutter Installer's bolted connection. Some customers take chains down for winter; many leave them up for the ice formations.

We sell standard 8.5-foot lengths, and they combine cleanly — order two and join them for runs up to 17 feet, or three to make two matched longer chains. Use the Gutter Installer on any extended chain; the added weight wants the stronger connection.

Yes — 100% pure copper, not copper-coated, and that has always been true. Pure copper weathers to a natural patina over time, which is half the charm. Prefer a finish that never changes? Our matte black chains are powder-coated aluminum, and our gray milled aluminum is exactly what the name says — no rust, no streaks, no staining, in any climate.

Five years against breakage. If a chain breaks in normal use within five years of delivery, email a photo to info@rainchainsdirect.com and we'll send a replacement — that's the whole process. The warranty covers breakage, not aging: copper's patina is the point of copper, and powder-coated finishes will show wear over years outdoors. Finishes weather; chains shouldn't break. If yours does, we make it right.

8.5 feet — full length for standard single-story eaves. Much of the market quietly sells 6-foot chains as "full length"; measure before you buy anywhere.

Cup styles (Barrels, Scallop, Flutes, Manicotti, Pineapple) catch and pour the water cup-to-cup — more presence, more water music. Link styles (Contempo, Channel, Square, Modern Loop) guide the water down an open chain — quieter, more architectural. Both handle real rainfall.
